Social research is a public trust. As researchers we carry a heavy responsibility for ensuring that we use the best tools and the best procedures for data collection and analysis. This Web site is intended to assist us all in attaining the highest level of accountability as researchers. In the end it is not only the quality of our research, but its contribution to improving the quality of education our children receive that matters.

The research tools are available for downloading. However, be aware of the risks as well as the benefits associated with using a tool developed in a country other than that in which you are working and probably designed to answer a different research question. A subtle shift in wording of an item or careless coding can have significant impact on your research results. An ill- trained data collector will generate bad research. Always recall the trite phrase… "Garbage in - Garbage out". You will find, within the site and among the 'links,' good advice as to how to do good research and how to allocate research resources.

As professionals we also recognize our responsibility for attribution. If you decide to use or adapt any of these instruments please give credit to the source. Additionally, the site would like to acknowledge your use of these tools and share your experience with others. The address to send any questions or to share your experience is ieq@air.org.

For these reasons, registration requires assent to a code of professional standards in using any research instruments downloaded from this Research Tools site. We hope that your research will have a beneficial impact on policy and practice, either nationally or locally.
