| The Guatemalan Peace Accords, signed in 1996 ended a civil war that lasted more than three decades. A key component of the peace accords is the construction of an equitable, multicultural, and multi-ethnic society to overcome previous discrimination practices. Bilingual intercultural education is seen as one means to achieve this goal. In 1997 the Government of Guatemala and USAID agreed to work together to expand and improve the quality of bilingual intercultural education. |
